Even at a shorter distance, you reach Rancho Nuevo Ecologic Reserve, and El Arcotete 10 kms away from San Cristobal de Las Casas respectively. Rancho Nuevo features a grotto made up by cavities over 10 kms long and 550 meters deep, it is a large natural corridor adorned by imposing rocky formations. El Arcotete is a stone with a shape of an arch, sculpted by the calmed motion that river water provided throughout time.
You may find rappel activity while observing the water falling or swimming in the water at the walls of El Chorreadero Waterfall, one hour away from San Cristobal de Las Casa
At the Arcotete, only 4 kms of distance from El Chorreadero, allow yourself to practice climbing and rappel activities at heights of up to 35 meters; opened on daily basis from 9:00 to 17:00 hrs.
Near San Cristobal de Las Casas, there are two important ecologic reserves such as: Huitepec and Rancho Nuevo, about 11 and 10 km away respectively. Huitepec is a place where you can tour through the cold weather forest where you also may encounter foggy characteristics, and watch different bird species, rodents, amphibious and reptiles; opened to the public from Tuesday to Sunday from 9:00 to 16:00 hrs.
In addition to practicing espeleism, you can perform horseback rides or recreational activities at Rancho Nuevo. Opened from Monday through Sunday from 8:00 to 17:00 hrs; El Arcotete allows for you to tour in the forest, among gorgeous pine trees, encinal and cypress trees as well, which are home of squirrels, road runners among other species.
